About This Trip

Embark on a 4-day gorilla and golden monkey safari, visiting both Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park. Bwindi is home to nearly half of the world's endangered mountain gorillas and is the only place where wild chimpanzees co-exist with gorillas. The safari also takes you to Mgahinga National Park, where you can trek the Nyakagezi gorilla family, known for staying in a narrow home range due to the abundance of food. This journey begins and ends in Entebbe.

Itinerary

Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, meet your professional English speaking driver-guide in Entebbe and begin your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. Travel through Uganda’s beautiful countryside, passing traditional villages, rolling hills, plantations and scenic landscapes. You may make a stop at the Equator for photographs and refreshments before continuing towards southwestern Uganda. Enjoy lunch en-route before proceeding to Bwindi. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge, relax and enjoy the surrounding forest scenery. Your guide will brief you about the following day’s gorilla trekking experience, including the park rules, safety precautions and what to expect during the trek.

Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, begin your guided trek through Bwindi’s dense tropical rainforest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. As you follow forest trails, you may encounter unique plant species, colorful birds and other wildlife. The trek can take several hours, depending on the gorillas’ location and the terrain. Once the gorillas are located, observe them in their natural habitat. Watch as they feed, groom one another, care for their young and interact within their family groups. This is an excellent opportunity to appreciate the behavior of these remarkable primates and capture memorable photographs while following the ranger’s instructions. After the trek, return to the park headquarters and transfer back to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay.

Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park - Golden Monkey Trekking

After breakfast, check out of your lodge and travel to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, located in southwestern Uganda within the Virunga volcanic region. Enjoy the scenic drive through the beautiful highlands, terraced hills and rural communities of the Kisoro area. Upon arrival, proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your golden monkey trekking experience. Accompanied by an experienced ranger guide, walk through the bamboo forest and montane vegetation in search of the endangered golden monkeys. Observe these lively primates as they leap between branches, forage for bamboo shoots and interact in their social groups. Their distinctive golden-orange fur makes them particularly fascinating to watch and photograph. Once the monkeys are located, visitors are generally allowed one hour to observe them, subject to park regulations. After the trek, return to the starting point and enjoy lunch. The afternoon can be spent relaxing at the lodge or, time permitting, enjoying an optional cultural experience with the local Batwa community to learn about their heritage and traditional relationship with the forest.

Return to Entebbe

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and begin your return journey to Entebbe. Travel through the scenic countryside of southwestern Uganda, enjoying views of the rolling hills, cultivated landscapes and traditional settlements along the way. Make a stop for lunch en-route before continuing towards Entebbe. Depending on your schedule, you may make brief stops for refreshments, photographs or souvenir shopping marking the end of your trip
