Overview

Lake Bunyonyi, often called the "place of many little birds," is a stunning highland lake in southwestern Uganda near the Rwandan border. Renowned for its breathtaking scenery, the lake is surrounded by terraced hills and features over 29 islands scattered across its tranquil waters. At an elevation of about 1,962 meters above sea level, it is one of Africa’s deepest lakes, reaching depths of up to 900 meters in some parts. Free of crocodiles, bilharzia, and hippos, Lake Bunyonyi is safe for swimming and offers activities like canoeing, hiking, birdwatching, and exploring local cultures. Its serene environment and natural beauty make it a popular retreat for relaxation and eco-tourism.
